MINAMO
Inspired by her trip to Japan in early 2015, Holly was drawn to traditional Japanese ceramics and the ‘Wabi Sabi’ philosophy; a poetry of nuances and subtleties that defy mere words. Wabi Sabi is not a "style" as such, but rather a mind-set. It is the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature. Wabi Sabi is modest and underplayed. It is the kind of quiet, undeclared beauty that waits patiently to be discovered.
The Wavee designs are created to mimic the water’s surface out at sea from the island of Naoshima, as well as the handcrafted Japanese ceramics from the area. Also in the collection are some directional pieces inspired by Constantin Brancusi’s 'Bird In Space' sculptures from the 1920’s in the form of statement single earrings, a long fine pendant and an egg shaped ring.
Holly Ryan has also collaborated with good friend Harriet Sutherland on a range of leather accessories including neck collars, a scarf, a belt, a harness and a hat. The collection in summation is a highly polished , modern offering of organic shapes and textures.
